Scott Pearce

Scott grew up in Lakeland, Florida and lived there most of his life.  He owned and operated a lawn and pest management company there until he sold it and moved to North Carolina in 2008.  Scott managed For Garden’s Sake from 2010 to 2015.  He and his wife, Marsha, then purchased For Garden’s Sake and they have been running it ever since.  Scott’s degree in Business and Professional Leadership has come in handy over the years managing the three divisions of FGS.  He loves spending time and traveling out West and in the NC mountains with Marsha, his newly-married daughter and son-in-law, and his two teenage boys.   Scott is an excellent musician and uses his talents when he has the opportunity (and time).

Marsha Pearce

Marsha grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and then Lakeland, Florida.  Marsha began her career in the Purchasing Department at Publix.  She then went into business with Scott and co-owned their lawn and pest management company in Florida.  She spent a few years at home with her three children until five years ago when she began part-time at FGS.  Now, she wears many hats here at FGS, but primarily works with the landscape sales team.  She doesn’t know a stranger and loves trying new things.  She refurbishes old furniture, spends time in the garden and works with wood.  She loves the smell of freshly cut wood and dreams of one day being a carpenter.

Chip Pearce

Moral Support Administrator/Human Resources,

Chip rules the house where he lives with his three siblings in Cary, NC.  He has received special training in the fields of patience, kindness and love.  He is exceptionally good at reading people’s feelings, providing a listening and non-judgmental ear and will even lick tears away if needed.  He has found that his services as therapy-dog are often required in our environment.  When he isn’t working as a therapy dog or curled up at Marsha’s feet, he is cleaning floors, taking out the trash, or begging Scott and Marsha to take him out more often.   Technically, he is a Cock-a-Poo, but honestly, he is probably a toy poodle.

Doug Barnes

Doug is native from Rocky Mount, NC, now living with his wife and son in Holly Springs, NC.  He graduated from NC State with a degree in landscape architecture and a minor in horticultural science.  Doug began his career at the JC Raulston Arboretum maintaining the gardens. He also spent a few years working for the NC State Parks system as a parks planner.  He joined the FGS team in 2013 managing the garden center and became the in-house landscape designer in 2015.  Doug spends his free time gardening, restoring furniture, playing guitar, surf fishing, and enjoying good food.

Ann Milam

Ann is a native of New York and grew up in New York City.  She left the big city behind 13 years ago and moved down here to NC.  She lives with her husband and dog in Durham.  Prior to managing our garden center, Ann was a teacher and worked in social services.  However, she has always had a soft spot for gardening and would do gardening jobs on the side.  She is a life-long gardener, and she loves helping people finding the right plant for the right place in their gardens and helping new gardeners overcome their fears.  She spends free time with her dogs, kayaking or tracing her family tree.

Amanda Henry

Amanda is from North Carolina, but grew up in Amman, Jordan.  She now calls Apex home and lives there with her husband and two children. She received her degree in English and Secondary Education at Appalachian State in Boone.  She taught high school English for eight years until deciding it was time for a change and ended up at FGS.  Amanda spends her weekends enjoying her family, cooking, working in her garden, and tending to her 60+ houseplants.

Viridian Sanchez

Viridian was born in Veracruz, Mexico, but she grew up in Hillsborough, NC.  She lives in Carrboro now with her family.  Viridian has an Associate in Arts and is currently working towards her Spanish Facilitator certification.  Her Spanish-speaking skills come in quite handy for us here at FGS!  She loves superheroes, but can’t choose a favorite. When she has free time, Viridian loves to read, work in her garden or watch movies.

Shannon Yoder

Shannon is originally a California girl, but she has established a beautiful home in Apex, NC.  Numbers come easy to her, and she proved it by earning her Masters in Accounting at Brigham Young University.  In addition to helping us navigate the accounting waters, she has spent a lot of her personal time helping other organizations with accounting.  She enjoys knowing that using her skills frees others to do what they love with less stress! Shannon spends her time away from here involved at her church, running, or just hanging out with her two lovely girls at the pool.
